CEO Julie Ann Freischlag to Serve as Interim Dean of Wake Forest School of Medicine

Press Releases Hospital, Medicine, WakeForestBaptist, Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – May 25, 2017 – Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center today announced that CEO Julie Ann Freischlag, M.D., also will serve as interim dean of Wake Forest School of Medicine for the upcoming academic year, which begins in July.

Freischlag takes on these additional responsibilities from Dean Edward Abraham who accepted a new position in March as dean at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine effective July 1.

The dual roles are very familiar to Freischlag. She served as both dean of the School of Medicine and vice chancellor for Human Health Sciences during her most recent tenure at the University of California, Davis.

“I found that the two roles gave me critical insights and complementary perspectives that helped me to advance organization goals and culture,” said Freischlag. “Our School of Medicine is well positioned for the future thanks to Dean Abraham, and I want to offer my thanks to him for his many contributions. Going forward, I know I can count on the help and guidance of many faculty and staff in the clinical enterprise and look forward to working together to achieve Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s highest aspirations.”

As CEO, Freischlag oversees the full scope of Wake Forest Baptist’s academic health system, which includes Wake Forest School of Medicine, Wake Forest Baptist Health, Wake Forest Innovations, Wake Forest Innovation Quarter, and its network of hospitals, physician practices and medical/surgical services.
